How HantaTracer treats sources
Each entry on the map and in the table is graded by the strength of its source. We never let a media headline alone produce a confirmed case count — but coverage from credentialed international news organisations does earn its own marker so you can see where attention is escalating.
Lab-confirmed and reported by a national health agency or the World Health Organization. Used for the orange/red and yellow case points.
Cumulative or event-level numbers from official sources where individual patient locations are not published (e.g. cruise-ship clusters, weekly NNDSS totals).
Country has reporting from credentialed international outlets (Reuters, AP, AFP, BBC, The New York Times, The Guardian, Le Monde, El País, Folha de S.Paulo, La Nación, Clarín). Shown as a marker; not used as a case count.
News from local outlets and aggregators surfaces in the country drawer and the news feed but does not create a marker. Independent professional media coverage is what backs the blue marker.
